Understanding COE
The Certificate of Entitlement (COE) is a key component of the cost of owning a new vehicle in Singapore. Buyers must successfully bid for a COE, which grants the right to own and use a vehicle for 10 years.
COE prices are determined through Singapore's open bidding system and can fluctuate between bidding exercises depending on demand and supply. As a result, the final price of an electric vehicle can change even when the vehicle's basic price remains unchanged.
For electric vehicles, the applicable COE category generally depends on the vehicle's power output and registration classification. Buyers should check the latest COE premiums and confirm how the COE is incorporated into the vehicle's advertised price before making a purchase.
